Sumburgh Head Visitor Centre is opening its doors this Up Helly Aa

Up Helly Aa at Sumburgh Head

We will be open from 10am – 5pm on four days over Up Helly Aa. There’s so much to discover inside our Visitor Centre and outside there are stunning views in every direction from Shetland Mainland’s most southerly point.

Discover the history of Shetland’s first Stevenson Lighthouse and its Keepers in our restored Engine Room and Smiddy. Visit our Radar Hut to learn how Sumburgh Head played a crucial role in protecting the British Home Fleet during WWII. And while you are here, dive into our Marine Life Centre to explore life under the waves.

We will be open from 10am – 5pm on:

Sunday 26th January

Wednesday 29th January

Thursday 30th January

Friday 31st January

Tickets to our Visitor Centre are available in the Gift Shop.

Katja’s Unken Wagen will be serving a selection of hot drinks and homebakes beneath the Lighthouse Tower from Wednesday to Friday. Visitors are welcome to take their refreshments into the Stevenson Centre and enjoy the stunning panoramic view away from whatever the January weather might throw at us.

Hope to see you there!
