Shona Main - Film screening and talk

Clavel by Shona Main Clavel by Shona Main Artist in Residence - Shona Main will show her film Clavel - A portrait of the Shetland crofter James Robert Sinclair of Clavel. Following him through the ‘sheep’ year this film is a study of a man, his way of life and those who help him live it.  Shona will talk about the making of it, furthermore discuss her current project, a book and film about the Shetland filmmaker, Jenny Gilbertson.

Shona Main was brought up in Bigton and James Robert is at the side of the road of many of her childhood memories. Originally a writer, she began experimenting with film in 2011. This is her first solo project and she filmed, edited and produced the film herself.

The music was written and performed by Bigton musicians Alice Mullay and Jonathan Ritch. The song Dagalien was sung by men from Bigton who have known James Robert all their lives.
