Knitty Gritty Workshop

Following her Residency at Sumburgh Head last year, Dutch knitter Carla Meijsen returns, this time to Bressay Lighthouse, with her Knitty Gritty workshop.

Especially for Shetland, Carla has prepared a shortened version of her popular advanced knitting course, which she teaches in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Join Carla for an afternoon of knitting boot camp where she will cover Portuguese and Combination knitting, knitting in the round on a pair of straight of needles, totally seamless cast-ons for a pouch, double-sided cabling and more!

It will be an experience and in-depth study of the knitted fabric and different techniques and knitting methods that will broaden your opinion on what the essence of knitting is, so you can get a better insight into the technique and bring your knitting on to a higher level.

Knitting experience needed:
This workshop is intended for advanced knitters that want to improve their knitting skills.

Things you need during the workshop:
Simple woollen yarn, preferably DK, but jumper weight is okay too. Please, choose a light colour. Avoid fantasy yarns and fluffy yarns, choose solid and not tweedy colours,… the simpler, the better!
Set of 4 or 5 double pointed needles, thickness suitable for the yarn
Cable needle
If time permits, we can extend the workshop with some special technique(s) for circular needles, so, just in case, you might want to bring a circular needle, thickness suitable for the yarn, length 100 or 120 cm (not shorter!).
Scissors, darning needle, tape measure, crochet hook and some stitch markers might be handy to bring along.
