Sumburgh Head is an imposing and prominent spur of rock forming the southernmost tip of Shetland Mainland, located 26 miles from the capitol town of Lerwick and approximately 1 mile from Sumburgh Airport.

Travelling to Sumburgh Head

If you are travelling by car, directions to Sumburgh Head can be found here.

If you are travelling with Public Transport, the nearest bus stop is Sumburgh Hotel Gate, 2.0 miles / 3.2 km from Sumburgh Head Lighthouse Visitor Centre. This is the Number 6 South Mainland Service that runs between Lerwick and Sumburgh. A current bus timetable is available here.

Parking at Sumburgh Head

Customer Parking is free at Sumburgh Head. The car park is located on the approach to Sumburgh Head, 0.5km from the Visitor Centre. We also have two disabled parking bays at the top of the hill, next to the lighthouse buildings, less than 30 metres from the Main Entrance. There is also a designated drop-off point at the top of Sumburgh Head, immediately before the Lighthouse complex; customers are asked to keep this area clear for anyone wishing to drop off passengers for our visitor attraction.
