Travel by Public Transport

The nearest bus stop is Sumburgh Hotel Gate, 2.0 miles / 3.2 km from Sumburgh Head Lighthouse Visitor Centre. This is the Number 6 South Mainland Service that runs between Lerwick and Sumburgh. A current bus timetable is available here.

Travel by Taxi

There are several taxi firms operating in Shetland, several of which have wheelchair accessible vehicles. These firms include Allied Taxis (01595 690069) and Sinclair’s Taxis (01595 696060). 

Accessible taxis should be booked in advance. To access the attraction please ask to be dropped off at our front entrance.

Parking

  • There is free customer parking at this visitor attraction, located on the approach to Sumburgh Head 0.3 miles / 0.5km from the Visitor Centre, with 26 spaces, including 2 disabled parking bays and space for 3 coaches.  We also have 2 disabled parking bays located within the Lighthouse complex, less than 30 metres / 100 feet from the main entrance.  
  • There is a designated drop-off point at the top of Sumburgh Head, located on the right-hand side immediately before you enter the Lighthouse complex. Visitors can also be dropped off outside the entrance to the Visitor Centre.
  • The surface from the customer parking to our Visitor Centre is tarmac with a mixture of tarmac, paving and some gravel within the Lighthouse complex. We also have wooden viewing platforms and an area of wooden decking.
