Level Acess
The road from the Customer Parking to the Lighthouse complex is steep and measures 0.3 miles / 0.5km long. A drop-off point is located at the top and there are two disabled parking bays, less than 30 metres / 100 feet from the main entrance to the Visitor Centre. Once at Sumburgh Head there is level access to:
- The Ticketing area and Gift Shop
- The Foghorn Engine Room
- The Smiddy
- The Marine Life Centre ground floor, with customer lift to first floor displays
- The Cafe with panoramic sea views
- Unisex Accessible Toilets
- An outdoor decked area with views to summer seabird colonies
Visual
- External walls and doors have high colour contrast
- Internal glass doors in the Marine Life Centre have contrast markings
- The Marine Life Centre ground floor has low lighting, contrasting with bright display screens
- We have display information in large print, including external interpretive panels and gift shop prices
General
- All staff have disability awareness training
- We have a complimentary ticket policy for personal assistants
- We welcome assistance dogs and can provide water bowls on request
